SUPERFUND WANDERERS - WIEN - Austria
The Baseball and Softball club was founded on September 19, 1986 and originally consisted of only one baseball team with twelve players. The club was built up around this team, which has been playing in the first league from the start.
Our Baseball and Softball club now counts over 130 members, which are divided up into seven active teams.
The softball team was formed mid-1996 and was strengthened through the merger with the softball team "Vienna Razorbacks" in 1998.
The baseball park "Spenadlwiese", built in 1995 with the combination of great private financial support, much personal dedication and the help of ASKOE, has become the Homestead of the Wanderers where all home games are carried out.
Six teams from all over Austria compete for the Championship title in the
1 Austrian Federal League (highest division). Each team plays 20 games during the Championship series per season. The top four teams at the end of the first round qualify for the end-of-season playoffs.
The Softball team is the most successful of the Club. Included in the achievements are besides 12 National Championship titles (of 16 possible ones), great international results.
Aside from the National League, the softball team also takes part in international tournaments and in the CEBA European Champions Cup. In the year 2000 the team was able to win the European Cup B-Pool for the second time.
And to top it all off, in 2001 they were the first Austrian team to play in an A-Pool competition, and have maintained their place in the A-Pool ever since.
